Affects Specifically to Males

Problems related especially to male survivors of rape and abuse.

1- Pressure to “prove” manhood:

  • Physically – becoming bigger, stronger and meaner, engaging in dangerous or violent behaviours
  • Sexually – by having multiple female sexual partners, always appearing ‘up for it’ and sexually in control

2- Confusion over sexuality and gender

3- Sense of being inadequate as a man

4- Fear that the sexual abuse/rape has caused or will cause you to become gay

5- Homophobia – fear or intolerance of any form of homosexuality
