Hello. This is a picture of me.
I am not a therapist.
I started this website because I was sexually abused by an extended family member as a child and raped by a man in India when I was 19 and by an man in Italy when I was 21. There wasn’t a court case even though I reported two out of the three crimes of sexual violence to the police. It was unfair and I was angry. I felt powerless and alone. I wanted to scream about the unfairness in our society and I thought I was the only one who felt like this. Until I joined a group therapy session for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. There I realised I wasn’t alone.
This is a safe place to share your story, encourage one another, and to organise ourselves into a supportive network.
I hope this space creates a community in Greater Manchester (and beyond) for us to help each other.
Survivors come from all sorts of backgrounds with all different talents. So let’s use this to our advantage and work together. For example someone wants to redecorate, it you find this relaxing you could help them paint. But please be careful. I would like to hope no horrible people will use this website to prey on vulnerable people however I cannot be certain. So when meeting up with someone from this website – meet in a public place, tell a friend where you are going and what time you expect to be back, you don’t have to tell them why you are meeting them or bring a trusted friend along to the first meet up.
I also wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to Ricardo at Sagitta Media (http://www.sagittamedia.co.uk/). Thanks for all the help with the digital stuff. You know it stresses me out so thanks for keeping me calm and helping me to create my dream projects.
And a thank you to Pixabay (www.pixabay.com) for their images.
